Last month, our kindergarten students went to the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan) for their very first big excursion of the school year! After a fun bus ride, we arrived at the museum full of curiosity and excitement. We started the day with a yummy lunch with our friend, then the students were fueled up to explore the museum!

Once inside, the kindergarten students explored a wide variety of exhibits about robots, space, the environment, and future technologies. They watched moving robots in action, walked through a life-size model of the International Space Station, and played interactive games that helped them learn about the Earth and science in a hands-on way. They had an exhibit where students could mix different components together like a DJ to learn how computers connect things together.

Next, they explored a room with a gigantic screen displaying different types of weather. By adding in wind, heat lamps and other effects, students were able to see and experience what may happen during storms. The students then saw an exhibit showing the damage caused by certain disasters. It showed different ways an earthquake, volcanic eruption or other disasters affect our world and how to stay safe in these situations. One part of the future exhibit had holographic food displayed on plates! The students tried to grab a hold of it but couldn’t actually touch it. It didn’t stop them from playing pretend and ‘eating’ the food though.

After our big adventure, we hopped back on the bus and made our way back to school. Still buzzing with excitement, the children talked happily about the amazing robots, space exhibits, and all the new things they had discovered. Once we returned, we enjoyed some yummy snacks together and had a little time to relax and unwind. It was the perfect way to end such a busy and fun-filled day. We’re so proud of how curious and enthusiastic the children were.
